Imagine a World Without Glasses

If you have a refractive error, like myopia or hyperopia, you’re probably no stranger to eyeglasses. It can be frustrating to complete daily tasks with eyeglasses. They can fog up when you wear a mask, slip down your nose, fall off, and may even break.

But you have choices! Although glasses can be very comfortable for casual at-home wear, you may want to explore your options for a glasses-free life.

Contact lenses are an excellent alternative to eyeglasses that give you increased freedom and flexibility. There’s a wide variety of choices to fit many different kinds of eyes and conditions, so we’re sure you’ll find something that works for you!

If you’re interested in contact lenses, please contact our office to request your appointment! You can also use our convenient online store to order your contatcts online!

The Contact Lens Exam

Contact lenses are small plastic discs that sit directly on the eye. If you’d like to explore them as an option for vision correction, we’ll need to perform a few tests to determine if they’re right for you. The diagnostic technology we use helps us measure your eyes and detect any signs of eye disease that could cause discomfort when wearing contact lenses. Plus, if we notice an eye condition, we can begin treatment.

Corneal topography is a non-invasive, digital imaging technology that maps the surface of your eye. Like a topographic map, corneal topography shows irregularities like a map shows a mountain. This test gives us a closer look at the surface of your eye so we can fit the perfect contact lens.

The Contact Lens Fittings

Once we’ve assessed your eyes, we’ll have a short discussion about your overall health goals, ocular needs, and lifestyle. This information helps us determine the type of contact lens best for you and your eyes.

We’ll make a recommendation based on what we found during your appointment. We’ll then talk about proper contact lens care and show you how to insert and remove your lenses correctly. If you notice any discomfort or have any concerns, we can try a different type of contact lens. Then, we’ll let you know how to clean them and how long you’re supposed to wear them. If you’re comfortable with the lenses you tried on, we’ll give you a trial pair and send you home to try them out for a week.

After a week, we’ll have you come back in for a follow-up exam so we can assess your eyes and how they’ve adjusted to the contacts. If everything is normal and you haven’t had any adverse reactions, you can place an order for your new contact lenses!

Specialty Contact Lenses

At Acuity Vision Optometry Boutique, we aim to fit all eyes with comfortable contact lenses. Alongside standard contact lens types, such as soft silicone hydrogel and rigid gas-permeable, we carry a few specialty contact lenses.

Orthokeratology or ortho-k lenses are specially-designed contact lenses used to improve vision by temporarily reshaping the cornea. They are rigid gas-permeable lenses worn at night while you sleep to flatten the cornea and correct myopia symptoms. The results from ortho-k are reversible, and vision will return to normal if you stop wearing the contact lenses.

Scleral lenses are larger-than-average rigid gas-permeable lenses that can provide superior comfort for those with corneal irregularities like keratoconus. They vault over the cornea, creating a smooth surface for light to refract through and a reservoir between the lens and the eye for fluid to continually bathe the eye. They can also provide a comfortable option for individuals with dry eye disease.
