We hear this regularly from patients who discover that Acuity Vision Optometry Boutique provides specialized treatments far beyond standard eye exams and prescription updates. While comprehensive vision care is our foundation, we’ve invested in advanced diagnostic technology and specialized training to address complex eye conditions that many practices simply refer elsewhere.

If you’ve been struggling with vision issues that haven’t responded to conventional treatment—or if you’re concerned about your child’s rapidly changing prescription—you may benefit from our specialty services.

Specialty Contact Lenses: Solutions Beyond Standard Options

Not everyone can wear standard contact lenses comfortably or successfully. We specialize in fitting advanced lens designs for complex conditions:

Keratoconus management – This progressive corneal condition causes irregular astigmatism that can’t be fully corrected with glasses. We fit rigid gas permeable lenses, scleral lenses and other specialty designs that vault over the irregular cornea to provide dramatically improved vision and comfort.

Dry eye contact lenses – High moisture designs, scleral lenses that bathe the eye in preservative-free saline, and other options for patients who have been told they “can’t wear contacts” due to dry eyes.

Post-surgical fitting – Specialty lenses for patients who have had corneal transplants, LASIK complications, or other surgical procedures affecting the corneal shape.

Many patients come to us after being told by other providers that contact lenses aren’t an option for them. Our specialty lens expertise often provides solutions where conventional fitting has failed.

Comprehensive Dry Eye Disease Management

Dry eye isn’t just an annoyance—it’s a medical condition that can significantly impact quality of life and, when severe, even threaten vision. Yet many patients suffer for years using over-the-counter drops without addressing the underlying causes.

As we discussed in our recent newsletter on Dry Eye Disease, effective treatment requires accurate diagnosis and a personalized approach.

Our dry eye services include:

Advanced diagnostics – Comprehensive evaluation to identify whether you have evaporative dry eye, aqueous deficiency, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, or a combination of factors.

In-office treatments:

  • Meibomian gland expression to unclog oil glands
  • Zest treatment for eyelid margin inflammation
  • BlephEx deep cleaning to remove biofilm and debris
  • Punctal plugs to retain natural tears on the eye surface

Specialty contact lenses – Scleral lenses and other designs that can provide relief for severe dry eye while enabling contact lens wear.

Customized at-home care – Prescription medications, therapeutic eye drops, oral supplements, lid hygiene protocols, and lifestyle modifications tailored to your specific type of dry eye.

We’re also excited to announce that we will be adding Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy and radiofrequency (RF) treatments to our dry eye services in the near future. These advanced technologies have shown excellent results for treating meibomian gland dysfunction, styes, inflammatory dry eye while providing an added benefit of reducing signs of aging and hyperpigmentation around the eyes. Stay tuned for updates as we expand our treatment capabilities.

Myopia Control: Slowing Childhood Nearsightedness

If your child’s glasses prescription keeps getting stronger year after year, they are not alone. Myopia (nearsightedness) is increasing dramatically worldwide, and it’s progressing faster in children than in previous generations.

Here’s what many parents don’t realize: slowing myopia progression during childhood can significantly reduce the risk of serious eye diseases later in life, including retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Higher levels of myopia correlate with greater risk for these vision-threatening conditions.

We offer multiple evidence-based myopia control methods:

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) – Specialized contact lenses worn overnight gently reshape the cornea, providing clear vision during the day without glasses or contacts. Research shows this can slow myopia progression by 32-63% in children.*

Soft multifocal contact lenses – Designed specifically for myopia control, these daily-wear lenses provide clear vision while simultaneously slowing eye elongation that drives myopia progression.

Low-dose atropine eye drops – A nightly drop that has been shown in multiple studies to slow myopia progression with minimal side effects.

Specialty spectacle lenses – Advanced lens designs that provide clear central vision while managing peripheral defocus to slow myopia progression.

We’ll evaluate your child’s specific situation and recommend the approach—or combination of approaches—most likely to be effective based on their age, family history, lifestyle, and rate of progression.

Binocular Vision Therapy: Retraining How Your Eyes Work Together

Many people assume that if they can see clearly with each eye individually, their vision is fine. But clear eyesight is only part of the picture. Your two eyes must work together as a coordinated team—and when they don’t, you can experience eye strain, headaches, double vision, reading difficulties, or problems with depth perception.

Binocular vision disorders affect both children and adults. Children may struggle with reading, lose their place frequently, avoid homework, or complain of words moving on the page. Adults often experience fatigue during computer work, difficulty driving at night, or persistent headaches despite having the “right” prescription.

Our binocular vision therapy program uses customized exercises and activities to retrain the visual system. We work with patients of all ages to improve:

  • Eye teaming and coordination
  • Focusing ability
  • Eye tracking and movement
  • Visual processing speed
  • Depth perception

Many patients notice significant improvement in reading stamina, work productivity, and overall visual comfort after completing a therapy program tailored to their specific needs.

Why Specialized Care Matters

These specialized services exist because not all vision problems can be solved with a standard eye exam and prescription. Many patients have spent years accepting discomfort, reduced performance, or worsening vision because they didn’t know other options existed.

You might benefit from our specialty services if:

  • Your child struggles with reading despite having good vision
  • Your child’s glasses prescription increases significantly every year
  • You experience headaches, eye strain, or fatigue despite having the “correct” prescription
  • You’ve been told you can’t wear contact lenses due to your prescription or eye condition
  • Reading or computer work is consistently uncomfortable
  • You have chronic dry eye symptoms that don’t respond to over-the-counter drops
  • You have an irregular cornea from keratoconus, surgery, or injury

Your Next Step

Specialized care begins with specialized evaluation. During a comprehensive exam, we assess not just visual acuity but also how your visual system functions as a whole. We’ll identify issues that may have gone undetected and discuss treatment options you may not have known existed.

If you’ve been struggling with vision issues that haven’t responded to conventional care—or if you’re simply curious whether our specialty services might benefit you, your child, a family member, or a friend—get a comprehensive evaluation scheduled. Everyone deserves to know all their options.
